What Makes Dental Implants So Great?
March 10, 2023
If you’re looking for good ways to replace your teeth, there are quite a few. Dentistry has no shortage of ways to fill the holes in your mouth, so you can spend quite a long time figuring out the best option for your particular situation.
However, one tooth replacement option stands apart from the others: dental implants! If you want to know why that is, here are a few reasons why dental implants are considered the gold standard of tooth replacement.
They Have Quite a Bite
Dental implants consist of a titanium rod that is fused to the jawbone and a crown that is attached to it. This means that, compared to dentures and bridges, there’s a much more solid foundation to support your dental implant. This translates to a much stronger bite force—one study found that dental implants can return up to 70% of your original bite, as opposed to only 30% of dentures.
They Can Give you Quite a Jawline
You may not even realize it, but your body is constantly making decisions about the best place to send scarce nutrients. When you lose a tooth, your body begins to believe that the area of the jaw is less important, and sends fewer nutrients to the area. Over time, this can eventually lead to bone loss.
Dental implants make use of the jawbone in a way that other tooth replacement options do not, stimulating it. This can stave off any bone atrophy that could cause headaches when it comes to dentures, for example.
Dental Implants are Very Reliable
Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that involves surgery, which may make certain patients nervous. However, the truth is that dental implants have a remarkably high success rate, with over 95% of them succeeding at 20 years if maintained properly.
That is about twice as long as other tooth replacement options tend to last, and nearly any dental implant you get will last that long. Many can even last as long as 30 years if maintained properly.
As you can see, dental implants have a lot of advantages over other tooth replacement options—now you know why people say that they’re the gold standard of tooth replacement!
