Stem Cell Treatment
If you’ve heard of stem cell treatment before, you likely know that it’s a highly advanced treatment that allows doctors to literally regrow tissue inside the human body. Dr. Justin Braga can not only stop gum disease in its tracks but effectively regrow parts of tissue to protect exposed portions of your teeth. At its worst, gum disease can lead to the loss of multiple teeth. With stem cell treatment, we can save your teeth and make sure your gums stay healthy for many years to come.
Bone Grafting
When teeth are lost, the alveolar bone tissue can begin to break down. Alveolar bone refers to tissue that makes up your actual jaw, and bone grafting allows us to regrow that bone. During a bone graft, Dr. Braga transplants donated bone tissue onto your existing jaw, giving it time to heal and integrate with the donated portions. This effectively increases the volume and density of your current bone tissue, making it easier to perform certain treatments, such as dental implant surgery.
Learn More About Bone Grafting
Gum Grafting
Gum grafting works on the same principle as bone grafting, except for one key difference. Instead of expanding bone volume, we’re expanding gum tissue, usually in order to cover your teeth as a result of gum recession. Dr. Braga typically takes tissue from the roof of the patient’s mouth as it is far more likely to integrate successfully with the damaged portions of your gums. Gum grafting is typically performed as part of a treatment for advanced periodontal disease where large amounts of tissue are permanently infected and therefore require removal.
Ridge Preservation
Many people do not realize that when a tooth is extracted, the bone tissue inside of the socket begins to resorb back into the body almost immediately. This can cause the jaw to become weak, negatively affect your biting force, and alter your facial appearance. To counter this, we perform ridge preservation, which is essentially the placement of donated bone tissue inside of the socket where the tooth was extracted. This also helps us avoid future complications should you decide to pursue dental implants later.
Sinus Augmentation
If you intend to replace teeth missing from the upper back portions of the jaw, you may find that there is limited bone tissue present. Through a sinus augmentation, or sinus lift, Dr. Braga can raise the floor and developing bone in order to perform a bone graft treatment in this hard-to-reach area of the mouth. After completing this treatment, which generates minimal discomfort at most, you’ll have a much better chance for successful implant placement.
